Q: What are the new changes regarding New Zealand tax reporting and how does this affect me as a Dasher?
A: New Zealand implemented new tax reporting rules for certain digital platform operators like DoorDash. These rules require DoorDash to collect information from Dashers and report information to the New Zealand Inland Revenue Department (IRD) every February for the prior calendar year.

Q: What information is DoorDash required to include in its report to IRD?
A: DoorDash must include the following Dasher information in its annual report:

  • First and last name

  • Primary address

  • Tax identification number

  • Date of birth

  • Total earnings paid or credited during each quarter of the prior calendar year

  • Total number of deliveries during each quarter of the prior calendar year

Q: Will I receive a copy of the information reported to IRD?
A:
Yes. DoorDash will incorporate the information provided to IRD into a personalised annual report available to each Dasher within the Dasher app by 7 February, beginning in 2025.

Q: DoorDash is sending me messages saying my tax identification number is missing. What does this mean?
A: New Zealand law requires DoorDash to collect and report each Dasher’s full legal name, primary address, date of birth, and tax identification number to IRD. If you received this message, our records indicate that you have not yet provided all the information that DoorDash is required to report. If you fail to provide any of the required information, penalties may be imposed by IRD.

Q: What should I do to update this information?
A:

  • If your tax identification number is missing or incomplete, you’ll be prompted by an in-app message directing you on how to update this before you can dash.

  • If your physical address is missing or incomplete, please reach out to Dasher Support to update your information.


Q: How can I view this report?
A: Beginning on 7 February, to view, save, export, or print your PDF report, please follow the steps below:

  • Step 1
    On the Earnings tab of the Dasher app, tap ‘View payout details’, then tap ‘Tax documents’

  • Step 2
    Use the dropdown to select the desired year
    The form for the selected year will appear (the earliest year you can select is 2024)

  • Step 3
    Tap on the form to display a PDF of the form
    Tap the share icon on the top right to share, save, or download the PDF

Q: I don’t currently see any reports in the Dasher app. Why is that?
A: The report will be available in the Dasher app by 7 February, beginning in 2025. If you did not have any earnings during the prior calendar year, no report will be available.
