What is a pharmacy delivery? 

Pharmacy deliveries are for prescription medication. They operate just like a normal delivery, with a few important differences outlined below. DoorDash is committed to the safe and compliant delivery of medicine. The following information is to help guide you when you receive orders containing medicine. Your safety, along with the safety of all our Customers and Merchants, is a priority.

Q: Am I eligible to deliver prescriptions?

A: Yes! At this time, all Dashers are eligible to deliver prescriptions. 

Q: How do I know this is a prescription delivery? 

A: You’ll know if you received a prescription delivery request because the pickup instructions will direct you to go to the pharmacy counter to pick up the prescription.

There are two layers of acceptance on pharmacy orders. After accepting the order, you’ll also receive an informational “pop-up” that provides information and pharmacy expectations around privacy. At this time, you can either acknowledge the information or unassign from the order.

Q: What if I do not want to accept a prescription delivery?

A: You do not have to accept any deliveries that you do not want to deliver. However, these orders will still be included in your acceptance rate calculation.

Q: Are there any specific protocols with prescription delivery packages?

A: Please note the following unique protocols about sealed packaging when completing pharmacy orders:

  • All prescription deliveries should be in sealed, non-transparent packages (so you won’t be able to see the contents).

  • Packages should be sealed by the pharmacy and opened only by the customer out of respect for their privacy. You may request tamper-proof packaging if the pharmacy doesn't seal the package.

  • If the pharmacy hands you a damaged or see-through package, you may remind them that sealed, non-transparent packaging is required. Contact DoorDash Support if you need additional assistance. 

Q: What do I do when I arrive at the pharmacy?

A: Let the pharmacy team know you are picking up a delivery with DoorDash. Provide the pharmacy team with the Customer name and order number as well as show them your dasher app screen to confirm the order. 

Q: What do I do when I get to the customer? 

A: Signature Capture: Your Dasher App will prompt you to capture a signature and details about the person signing. If another adult will be signing on behalf of the customer, they will indicate their relationship to the recipient of the prescription in the Dasher App. 

Q: What do I do if the customer is unavailable?

A: Unattended deliveries are not permitted. This means that medicine items must always be handed directly to the recipient. If the customer who placed the order, or another nominated adult, is not available to accept the order, do not complete the delivery and mark “Customer Unavailable” in the Dasher App. This will automatically create a return delivery. The app will provide information about where and how to return the prescription to the pharmacy. Once you arrive at the pharmacy to return the prescription, let the pharmacy team know and capture their signature to confirm the medications have been returned. Your rating will not be affected and you will still receive full payment for the delivery, as well as payment for returning the medicine.

Q: What happens if there is an issue on the order?

A: Please do the following if there is an issue on the order:

  • Wrong Customer Address: Return the prescription to the pharmacy (you will be compensated for this return!) Chat DoorDash Support with any issues. 

  • Package is damaged: Return the prescription to the pharmacy (you will be compensated for this return!). Chat DoorDash Support with any issues. 

  • Technical/App Issue: If you have any technical issues, please chat DoorDash Support so an agent can help you.  

  • Store closed upon return: If the pharmacy is closed, see if there is a store manager present. If not, chat DoorDash Support to confirm next steps!
