Merchant to Dasher Pickup Verification

3 min read

Maintaining accurate orders ensures Customers receive the items they ordered as they requested them, helping to keep ratings high and Customers happy.

We trust that Dashers pick up the correct DoorDash orders based on customer names and order details, but sometimes names may not be unique and there may be confusion during the pickup/handoff process.

To help reduce the likelihood of wrong order pick-ups, we have added a unique QR code on the order receipt, and Dashers will be prompted to scan it with their camera to confirm the pickup. If scanning the code fails, you will have to try again, OR dismiss the screen and switch to the alternative verification method “Manually enter order number” (go back to re-select)*.

To reduce wait and confusion when you arrive at the store, we’ve reminded Merchants to print the DoorDash order ticket for every order and attach it to the customer’s bag so you can easily identify the customer name and QR Code/Order Number.

*McDonald’s stores will require manually entering an order number instead of scanning a QR code (see flow below)

1. Tap on Scan QR code on receipt on your Dasher app screen once you’ve arrived at the store and located the Customer’s bag

Find this on the screen asking for camera access (below “Allow Camera Access”) OR go back to the main screen and re-select the verification method Manually enter the order number (right photo).

Note: If you are picking up at a McDonald’s, they will only have the option to input an Order Number so the screen will read Confirm pickup instead.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: When will I be prompted to scan the QR code?

A: Dashers need to scan a QR code when they arrive at the store and locate the customer’s order in order to confirm pick-up.

Q: What will happen if I scan the wrong QR code mistakenly?

A: If you’ve scanned the wrong QR code, you will be prompted to try again. If you are unable to scan the correct QR code or you cannot allow the app camera access, you may alternatively enter the order number manually (see table above).

Q: What should I do if the DoorDash receipt is not present on the customer’s bag?

A: We recommend confirming the name and order details with the Merchant if the receipt is not present. If the Merchant doesn’t have the receipt with the QR code or the order number, please contact Dasher support

Q: What should be done if the Dasher app is not working or I am unable to confirm pick-up?

A: If you are experiencing technical issues with the app, please contact Dasher support to have Support (manually) confirm the pick-up of the order. Please do NOT cancel the order.
