Already Selling on DoorDash? Switching to Shopify

If you’re an existing DoorDash merchant who wants to move your store onto Shopify so you can run
your DoorDash integration through the Shopify Sales Channel, follow Shopify’s initial store setup guide to get your store ready first. Once it’s live, come back to step above (Already on DoorDash?) to connect your existing DoorDash account.

Prepare Your Store

Before going live on DoorDash Marketplace, take a few minutes to review your store setup and catalog.

Store Setup Checklist

✔️ Set and confirm your store hours in the DoorDash Merchant Portal.

✔️ Confirm you can fulfill orders during your operating hours — a 30-minute prep time is automatically built in for every order.

Catalog Readiness

✔️ All products MUST have high-quality images — products without images will not sync to DoorDash Marketplace.

✔️ Product descriptions are customer-friendly and accurate.

✔️ Pricing and inventory quantities are correct and up to date.

✔️ Products are correctly categorized (e.g., Pillows → Home Décor).

Product & Catalog Management

When you connect your Shopify store to DoorDash, eligible products are made available on DoorDash Marketplace. DoorDash automatically syncs product information from Shopify — so your storefront on DoorDash always reflects what is in your Shopify Admin.

What DoorDash Syncs from Shopify

  • Product names

  • Descriptions

  • Images

  • Pricing

  • Inventory availability

  • Product variants

  • Product categories

Important — Shopify Controls Your Catalog

Shopify is the source of truth for your DoorDash storefront. All updates to your products must be made directly in Shopify, including product information, pricing, inventory quantities, availability, and images. Changes made in Shopify will automatically sync to DoorDash.

Please note, changes made in Shopify can take up to 4 hours to update on DoorDash.

Note: DoorDash cannot manually edit product names, descriptions, pricing, inventory, or catalog
formatting. All updates should be made in Shopify Admin.

Product Requirements

To appear on DoorDash Marketplace, a product must:

  • Be published to the DoorDash Sales Channel.

  • Have an Active status in Shopify.

  • Include a high-quality product image (mandatory).

  • Meet inventory availability requirements.

Products that do not meet these requirements may not appear on your DoorDash storefront.

Managing Products & Inventory

To update product information or inventory:

  1. Log in to Shopify Admin.

  2. Select Products

  3. Choose the product you want to update.

  4. Make your updates — inventory quantity, pricing, product information, images, or availability
    settings.

  5. Click Save. Your changes will automatically sync to DoorDash.

Product Categories

Setting the correct Product Category in Shopify helps DoorDash accurately organize and display your products for customers. Without a category assigned, DoorDash groups all items into a single default section — making it harder for shoppers to browse and discover your products.

Why Product Categories Matter on DoorDash

  • Better discoverability — products appear in the correct browsing category on DoorDash Marketplace.

  • Accurate storefront navigation — prevents all items from appearing in one uncategorized group.

  • Tax accuracy — Shopify uses standardized categories for automated tax calculations.

  • Return tracking — categories power return reason recommendations.

Category vs. Product Type

DoorDash uses the Category you assign in Shopify to decide where your products appear in your storefront.

The Product Type field is optional and is only used for organizing products within Shopify—it does not affect how products are displayed on DoorDash.

Tip
Choosing the correct Category helps customers find your products more easily on DoorDash.

How to Update a Product Category

  1. Go to Shopify Admin → Products and open the product you want to update.

  2. Scroll to the Product organization section.

  3. Click the Category field and start typing — Shopify will show matching suggestions. Use Shopify
    Magic
    for AI-powered category recommendations.

    • Screenshot 2026-07-12 at 3.12.23 PM
  4. Select the most specific category available (e.g., Clothing & Accessories > Tops & Tees rather than just
    Clothing).

  5. Click Save. Changes sync to DoorDash within ~24 hours, or use Push Catalog for an immediate
    update.

Bulk Category Update

To update categories across multiple products at once: Shopify Admin Products → check the boxes for all products to update → Bulk EditAdd fields → select Product Category → update each row → Save.

Note: Updating a product category does not affect your Shopify website, Collections, or storefront
navigation — these are managed separately.

Understanding Product Availability

A product's visibility on DoorDash is determined by its status in Shopify:

Screenshot 2026-07-09 at 6.07.39 AM

Out-of-Stock Products

  • Products with zero inventory are typically removed from DoorDash when inventory tracking is enabled and Continue Selling When Out of Stock is turned off.

  • If Continue Selling When Out of Stock is enabled, products may remain available for purchase even
    when inventory reaches zero.

Push Inventory

  • Inventory and pricing updates typically sync automatically between Shopify and DoorDash. If you need updates to appear on DoorDash immediately, you can use Push Inventory to manually trigger a sync.

When to use Push Inventory:

  • After marking a product out of stock.

  • After restocking inventory.

  • After updating inventory quantities or pricing.

  • After correcting inventory mismatches.

After making location-specific inventory updates.

How to Push Inventory:

  1. Open the DoorDash Sales Channel App in Shopify Admin.

  2. Navigate to the store location you want to update.

  3. Click the three-dot menu (...) next to the location.

  4. Select Push Inventory.

  5. Wait for DoorDash to refresh inventory and pricing for that location.

Tip

Use Push Inventory any time you want inventory or pricing updates to appear on DoorDash
immediately instead of waiting for the next automatic sync.

Please note, changes made in Shopify can take up to 4 hours to update on DoorDash.

Push Catalog to DoorDash

If a merchant is still onboarding or has not yet completed activation, publishing products to the
DoorDash Sales Channel may not automatically make those products available on DoorDash. In these
cases, use Push Catalog to DoorDash to manually trigger a catalog refresh.

When to use Push Catalog to DoorDash:

  • Products have been published but are not appearing on DoorDash.

  • Recent product updates are not yet reflected on DoorDash.

  • The merchant is still in the onboarding or activation process.

  • A manual catalog refresh is needed.

How to Push a Catalog:

  1. In Shopify Admin, navigate to DoorDash under Sales Channels.

  2. Open the DoorDash Overview page.

  3. Click the three-dot menu (...) next to the DoorDash Merchant Portal button.

  4. Select Push Catalog to DoorDash.

Troubleshooting Tip

Before escalating a catalog visibility issue:
Confirm whether the merchant has completed activation. If activation is still in progress, instruct the merchant to use Push Catalog to DoorDash. Verify the catalog push has been completed before further investigation.

Example: A merchant publishes products while still onboarding and does not see them on
DoorDash. Direct the merchant to: DoorDash Sales Channel → (...) → Push Catalog to DoorDash.

Order Management

Once your store is live, orders from DoorDash Marketplace will flow directly into your Shopify Admin. Here is how the order process works from start to finish.

  1. A customer places an order on DoorDash Marketplace.

  2. The order appears in your Shopify Admin. You will receive a notification via email, Shopify app push
    notification, or DoorDash automated call.

  3. Prepare the order at your store. A default 30-minute prep time is built in automatically.

  4. A Dasher arrives at your store for pickup. No payment is exchanged at the door.

  5. The Dasher delivers the order directly to your customer. Order complete.

Cancellations & Refunds

  • To cancel an order, do so directly in Shopify Admin — the customer will be notified automatically through the DoorDash app

  • Refunds are processed in Shopify Admin using the customer's order number.

  • Refunds support full-item amounts only (partial item refunds are not supported).

  • Order substitutions are not supported — if an item is unavailable, cancel that item from the order

  • You will have a standard 30-day return window enabled. You must offer either a return or store
credit to your customers within the 30-day window.

Order Notifications

  • Shopify Admin Orders page (manual refresh required).

  • Email notifications.

  • Shopify mobile app push alerts.

  • DoorDash automated phone call — contact DoorDash Support to opt out.

Reactivation, Deactivation and Disconnect

  1. Log into your Shopify Admin.

    • Screenshot 2026-07-09 at 11.03.13 PM

Note:

  • Deactivate

    • "Deactivate all stores" — temporarily pauses all connected locations; stores become non-orderable on DoorDash.

    • Catalog and inventory sync stop, and orders stop flowing into Shopify while deactivated.

    • Merchants can reactivate at any time using "Reactivate all stores."

  • Disconnect

    • "Disconnect store" — permanently closes a single connected store location on DoorDash.

    • "Disconnect all stores" — permanently closes all connected locations/the account on DoorDash at once.

    • This is terminal: once disconnected, the store/account is not restored by reconnecting the app. A new setup is required.

Disconnect vs. Deactivate
Disconnect is a distinct, permanent action — not a synonym for Deactivate. Use Deactivate for any temporary pause.
