Guidelines for Selling Alcohol Products in Canada
Who can sell alcohol on DoorDash in Canada?
Merchants in Canada can only sell and deliver alcohol through DoorDash Marketplace if they:
1. Are located in an alcohol-approved (unlocked) province
Alcohol delivery is currently available in the following Canadian provinces:
Ontario
Quebec*
British Columbia
Alberta
Saskatchewan
New Brunswick
*In Quebec, DoorDash Marketplace can deliver wine, cider, and beer only. Cocktails and spirits aren't supported.
2. Sign the alcohol addendum
You must agree to DoorDash's alcohol-specific terms and conditions. If the addendum isn't signed, you won't be able to receive alcohol orders or payouts. To find the addendum:
Log in to the Merchant Portal
Navigate to the menu manager and click on Review the required steps under the “Controlled Substances Notice”
3. Comply with local laws and permits
Alcohol delivery rules vary by jurisdiction. Always review your retail permit and local regulations to confirm:
Whether off-premises delivery is allowed
Which beverage types you can sell
Any delivery or handling conditions that apply
How do I sign up to sell alcohol on DoorDash?
If all of your locations are in alcohol-approved provinces, you can sign up using the self-serve flow in Merchant Portal:
Sign in to the Merchant Portal
Go to Account Settings
Select Menu Settings
Choose Add Alcohol and follow the prompts
Once submitted, DoorDash will review your request. Approval typically takes 1–2 business days. After approval, you can add alcohol items to your menu.
How do I mark an item as containing alcohol?
You can mark an item as containing alcohol after you've signed the alcohol addendum and have access to the menu editor.
When adding or editing an item, tap “This item contains alcohol.”
Prefer help? You can also submit a menu update request through the Help tab in the Merchant Portal. Tap Request a Menu Update, and the menu team will tag alcohol items during review.
Why can't I add alcohol to my DoorDash menu?
The most common reasons you can't add alcohol to your DoorDash menu include:
Your location isn't in an alcohol-approved province
The alcohol addendum hasn't been signed
Your request is still under review
Check your province's eligibility and confirm your account status in the Merchant Portal.
What if only some of my locations are in approved provinces?
If only some of your locations are in approved provinces, submit a menu update request.
DoorDash can create separate location-specific menus so that alcohol items appear only where delivery is supported.
How does DoorDash verify a customer's legal drinking age?
To verify a customer's legal drinking age, DoorDash uses multiple safeguards.
Customers must confirm they are of legal drinking age before checkout
At delivery, the Dasher uses the Dasher app ID scanner to verify the recipient's ID
If the ID scan fails (for example, the customer is underage or the ID is expired), the Dasher App notifies the Dasher to return the items to the store.
