Already Selling on DoorDash? Switching to Shopify

If you’re an existing DoorDash merchant who wants to move your store onto Shopify so you can run
your DoorDash integration through the Shopify Sales Channel, follow Shopify’s initial store setup guide to get your store ready first. Once it’s live, come back to step above (Already on DoorDash?) to connect your existing DoorDash account.

Prepare Your Store

Before going live on DoorDash Marketplace, take a few minutes to review your store setup and catalog.

Store Setup Checklist

✔️ Set and confirm your store hours in the DoorDash Merchant Portal.

✔️ Confirm you can fulfill orders during your operating hours — a 30-minute prep time is automatically built in for every order.

Catalog Readiness

✔️ All products MUST have high-quality images — products without images will not sync to DoorDash Marketplace.

✔️ Product descriptions are customer-friendly and accurate.

✔️ Pricing and inventory quantities are correct and up to date.

✔️ Products are correctly categorized (e.g., Pillows → Home Décor).

Product & Catalog Management (Catalog & Inventory Setup Guide)

When you connect your Shopify store to DoorDash, your catalog is built directly from what you configure in Shopify. Understanding how that sync works — and what you need to get right before going live — will ensure your store looks exactly the way you want on DoorDash.

Built As-Is

Shopify Is the Source

Items Need to Be Active

Your DoorDash catalog is a direct reflection of your Shopify store. No manual overrides happen on our end.

All catalog changes must be made in your Shopify dashboard. Changes take effect once your store is live.

Only active items can be sent to the DoorDash platform and displayed on your storefront

To make sure your store is ready to go through the Shopify x DoorDash process, please make sure the following information is up to date on your Shopify Dashboard. This includes:

  • 20 Active Products (Without 20 products, your store will not onboard as expected)

  • Address

  • Ensure your Shopify and DoorDash store names match exactly

  • Shopify Admin Portal Email is linked to your DoorDash Merchant Portal

  • Set and confirm your store hours in the DoorDash Merchant Portal

1  —  YOUR CATALOG IS BUILT AS-IS

What you configure in Shopify is exactly what gets published to DoorDash. There is no curation, re-ordering, or editing of your catalog on our side. This means:

  • Product names, descriptions, and prices appear exactly as set in Shopify

  • Product images are pulled directly from your Shopify listings

  • Any errors or gaps in Shopify will be reflected on your DoorDash store page

  • Shopify Categories are pre-mapped to DoorDash categories and you will see this reflected in the taxonomy at the top of your store page

⚠️  Important: All Changes Must Be Made in Shopify

DoorDash cannot edit your catalog on your behalf. If something looks wrong on your store page — a price, a product name, an image, or a missing item — the fix must be made directly in your Shopify dashboard.

Once the correction is saved in Shopify and your store is live, the catalog will update automatically.

2  —  CATEGORIES DRIVE YOUR STORE COLLECTIONS

Categories in Shopify map directly to collections on your DoorDash store page. Getting these right is critical — they control how your items are organized and discoverable for customers.

Gemini Generated Image 9rsois9rsois9rsoGemini Generated Image xrbepixrbepixrbe

📌  Categories must be accurate

If a product is assigned to the wrong category in Shopify, it will appear in the wrong collection on DoorDash. We build collections based on the category data you provide — we cannot move individual items on our side.

3  —  SELECT ALL INVENTORY YOU WANT ON DOORDASH

Only the products and variants you explicitly enable for DoorDash in Shopify will appear on your store. Nothing is included by default.

This includes sub-inventory within item groupings: if you sell a product in multiple sizes, flavors, or variants, you must enable each variant individually. Enabling the parent product alone is not sufficient.

✅  Before You Go Live — Inventory Checklist

▢  Ensure you have at least 20 products to include on DoorDash

▢  All products you want on DoorDash are marked as active and available

▢  Every variant (size, flavor, pack) is individually selected and enabled

▢  Out-of-stock items are marked unavailable in Shopify to prevent customer confusion

▢  Product titles and descriptions are accurate and complete

▢  All products have a category assigned

4  —  ADDING ITEMS + REMOVING ITEMS

Adding items and excluding items take 24 hours to reflect on your storefront.

You are able to add and remove items in bulk.

To Exclude Items in bulk:

  1. Go to your Menu tab on the left hand side

  2. Select Products

  3. Select the box next to box located in the header row → this select all the boxes

  4. Select 3 dots next to “Set as Draft”

  5. To Remove → Click on Exclude from Sales Channel

  6. Select DoorDash Sales

  7. Select Exclude Sales Channel Box

To Include Items in bulk:

  1. Go to your Menu tab on the left hand side

  2. Select Products

  3. Select the box next to box located in the header row → this select all the boxes

  4. Select 3 dots next to “Set as Draft”

  5. To Remove → Click on Include in Sales Channel

  6. Select DoorDash Sales

  7. Select Include Products

5  —  KEEPING YOUR CATALOG UP TO DATE

Your DoorDash catalog syncs automatically whenever changes are made in Shopify.

🔄 You can push edits made to your store before going live

Any updates made in Shopify before going live—such as adding products, changing prices, or updating categories—require a Push to Catalog in order to sync and reflect on DoorDash.

If you would like the changes to publish sooner, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the DoorDash Sales Channel App

  2. Select Home

  3. On the Overview page, click the three dots next to the DoorDash Merchant Portal button

  4. Select Push Catalog to DoorDash

Once your store is live, catalog changes will automatically sync to DoorDash every 24 hours. If you need updates to appear sooner, you can manually push the catalog at any time by following the steps above

Common catalog update scenarios:

  • Price change in Shopify → Updates on DoorDash once store is live

  • New product added in Shopify → Appears on DoorDash once store is live

  • Category renamed in Shopify → Collection updates on DoorDash once store is live

Item marked out of stock in Shopify → Hidden from DoorDash once store is live

6  —  CATEGORY HEALTH

Maintain strong catalog health with clear product names, quality images, and accurate pricing to improve discoverability and drive sales.

1. Product Naming is Critical

Most customers discover items through Search, and using clear, relevant keywords helps ensure your products appear when customers are looking for them.

Examples: Nike Men's Blue Short Sleeve Cotton Shirt

[Brand] [Gender/Age*] [Item Name] [Variant/Color/Material*] [Container/Count*]

* = include only when applicable

2. High Quality Images

All products MUST have high-quality images — products without images will not sync to DoorDash Marketplace

3. Up to Date Pricing

All pricing will be pulled directly from your system

4. Restricted Words

Do not include restricted terms such as alcohol or tobacco. Items containing these terms may not be built, which can prevent the store from moving forward.

Order Management (Order Fulfillment, Pricing & Refunds)

DoorDash orders come into the same Shopify Orders section as all your other orders — no separate dashboard or app needed. You can identify them by the sales channel: orders placed through DoorDash will show DoorDash as the sales channel. Everything else — accepting, fulfilling, refunding — works the same way you already manage orders today.

1 — ORDER MANAGEMENT

When a customer places an order on DoorDash, it flows directly into Shopify Admin. You manage it exactly like any other order — the only difference is the sales channel label.

🔔  Heads up: Shopify Admin does not have audible order alerts

To ensure you never miss an order, DoorDash sends a robocall to your phone when a new order comes in. If you prefer to disable the robocall, contact DoorDash Merchant Support to turn it off. In the meantime, make sure your Shopify Admin notifications are enabled on mobile.

⚠️  Order substitutions are not supported

If an item is unavailable at the time of fulfillment, you cannot substitute it with another item. Instead, cancel that specific item from the order in Shopify Admin before marking the order as fulfilled.

2 — PROMOTIONAL PRICING (COMPARE-AT PRICE)

Use Shopify's Compare-at Price field to automatically show strikethrough pricing on the DoorDash Marketplace. This highlights savings to customers without any manual configuration on the DoorDash side.

How It Works

Best Practices

Set the current selling price in the Price field

Add the higher original price in the Compare-at Price field

DoorDash automatically displays the original price with a strikethrough next to the sale price

  • Use for promotions and featured products to drive conversion
  • Customers see the original price crossed out, increasing perceived savings
  • Keep Shopify pricing accurate and up to date — changes sync automatically
  • Remove Compare-at Price when a promotion ends to avoid displaying stale discounts

DoorDash pricing matches your Shopify Price

DoorDash displays the same price set in your Shopify product. There is no separate pricing for the DoorDash channel.

If you update a product price in Shopify, that change will apply across all your sales channels — including DoorDash, your Online Store, and any others — not just DoorDash.

Always review which channels are affected before adjusting prices to avoid unintended changes on other storefronts.

3 — RETURNS & REFUNDS

All returns and refunds for DoorDash orders are managed directly in Shopify Admin — there is no separate return flow within DoorDash. Customers must return items in-store. Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase and can issue either a full refund or store credit.

1. Locate the order

Go to Orders in Shopify Admin and find the DoorDash order. You can filter by the DoorDash sales channel to narrow results quickly.

2. Initiate the refund

Open the order and click Refund. Processing refunds natively in Shopify keeps all financial data synced.

3. Select items to refund

Choose individual products for a partial refund, or select all items for a full refund.

Note: You can refund part of an order, but not a partial quantity of a single item. Refunds are per item, not per unit fraction.

4. Complete the refund

No barcode scanner or separate return flow is required. Everything is handled manually through the Shopify Admin order page.

ℹ️  Return vs. Refund in Shopify

In Shopify, "Return" and "Refund" may appear as separate actions on an order — but for DoorDash orders, they effectively function the same way.

Use whichever option is available on the order to process the customer's request.

Troubleshooting

If you run into issues, the table below covers the most common scenarios and how to resolve them
quickly.

Item variants look identical in my orders (e.g., 1 liter vs. 2 liter shows as the same item).

DoorDash Tablet and the DoorDash Business Manager App (BMA) don't display variant-level detail — a known limitation, most noticeable on large catalogs.

Check the order in Shopify Admin → Orders to see the full variant name.

I can't tell which location an order belongs to.

DoorDash Tablet/ DoorDash Business Manager App don't show location either, and Shopify doesn't restrict order visibility by location — every location's staff can see every order by default.

Check Shopify Admin → Orders → [order] for the Location field,

Or filter the Orders list by location.

Orders are being fulfilled from the wrong location.

Most commonly a third-party fulfillment or order-routing app re-routing the order after DoorDash assigns it.

Review the order's timeline in Shopify Admin → Orders → [order] for an entry showing another app changed the fulfillment location.

If found, exclude DoorDash orders from that app's rules.

If no such app is installed, or DoorDash's initial assignment looks wrong, contact DoorDash Support with your

- Shopify Shop ID, and
- the affected order ID(s).

Managing Multiple Store Locations

If you operate more than one store, here's what to know about connecting them and how orders, inventory, and fulfillment work across locations.

Connecting Additional Locations

  1. In Shopify Admin, go to SettingsLocations and confirm each location has "Use inventory at this location to fulfill online orders" turned on.

  2. Complete self-serve onboarding for your first location.

  3. Return to the DoorDash Sales Channel App, select Connect Another Location, and repeat for each additional store.

  4. If a new location doesn't appear as an option, reach out to DoorDash Support — additional store records sometimes need to be created manually on our end.

image (7)

How DoorDash Assigns Orders to a Location

Each order placed on DoorDash Marketplace is assigned to the DoorDash-linked Shopify location tied to the store the customer ordered from. You can confirm which location an order belongs to any time in Shopify Admin → Orders, using the Location field or filter.

⚠️ Using Third-Party Fulfillment or Order-Routing Apps?
If you have a third-party fulfillment optimization, inventory management, or order-routing app installed in Shopify , review how it handles DoorDash orders before going live.

Why this matters: Some of these apps re-route fulfillment based on inventory levels or custom rules — and can override DoorDash's location assignment, sending orders to the wrong store.

What to do:

  • Check whether your 3P app can exclude DoorDash orders from automatic re-routing.

  • If you're unsure how, contact that app's support team before activating your DoorDash store.

  • If orders go to the wrong location after going live, contact DoorDash Support and share the order's full timeline from Shopify Admin (showing which app changed the fulfillment location).

Viewing Orders and Variants Across Locations

Tablet and the Business Manager App (BMA) are built for single-location, straightforward catalogs — they don't currently show item variants (e.g., "Small T Shirt" vs. "Medium T Shirt") or which location an order is for.

If you carry many product variants or run multiple locations, check Shopify Admin → Orders for the complete order detail, especially during your first few weeks live.

Reactivation, Deactivation and Disconnect

Note: If you are planning to Disconnect your store, please call DoorDash Support.

  1. Log into your Shopify Admin.

  2. Navigate to Sales Channel and select DoorDash.

    • image (5)
  3. Locate the three dots (...) below on the top right hand below "DoorDash Merchant Portal" and "Connect Another Location"

    • image (6)
  4. Choose the appropriate option - Activate All Stores or Deactivate All Stores.

    • Screenshot 2026-07-09 at 11.03.13 PM

Note:

  • Deactivate

    • "Deactivate all stores" — temporarily pauses all connected locations; stores become non-orderable on DoorDash.

    • Catalog and inventory sync stop, and orders stop flowing into Shopify while deactivated.

    • Merchants can reactivate at any time using "Reactivate all stores."

  • Disconnect

    • "Disconnect store" — permanently closes a single connected store location on DoorDash.

    • "Disconnect all stores" — permanently closes all connected locations/the account on DoorDash at once.

    • This is terminal: once disconnected, the store/account is not restored by reconnecting the app. A new setup is required.

Disconnect vs. Deactivate
Disconnect is a distinct, permanent action — not a synonym for Deactivate. Use Deactivate for any temporary pause.
