New and Improved Dasher Driving Insights powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT).

Overview

Driving Insights helps you understand your driving habits so you can stay safer on the road. Safer driving helps protect you, your community, your vehicle from costly damage, and your ability to keep earning.

At DoorDash, safety is a top priority, and we’re committed to promoting safer driving in the communities we serve. That’s why we previously piloted Driving Insights with Dashers and have since made updates to make the experience more helpful and reliable based on Dasher feedback.

Now, we’re rolling out the revamped Driving Insights experience to Dashers in select U.S. locations. Powered by Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics provider, Driving Insights provides personalized information to help you better understand your driving behaviors and support safer driving over time.

Why am I seeing this?

Safer driving helps keep you and your community safe. It also protects your livelihood. Fewer accidents mean less risk of costly vehicle damage and less time off the road, so you can keep dashing and earning. Driving Insights gives you a clearer picture of your habits so you can make small adjustments that can add up over time.

How does Driving Insights work?

After you complete enough dashes and travel a minimum distance, you may see a summary of your driving behaviors at the end of a dash.

Insights compare your recent driving activity to your own past behavior over similar distances to provide context.

How Driving Insights works: CMT uses phone sensor data to generate insights based on your driving during a dash. These include speed, hard braking, rapid accelerating, hard cornering, and phone handling.

What behaviors are included?

Driving Insights currently highlights the following five behaviors:

Speed
Driving well above the speed limit or faster than the typical flow of traffic.

Phone handling
Detected when there is a signal that the phone is in your hand while the vehicle is moving, and the phone is unlocked. A mounted phone generally does not signal phone handling.

Hard braking
A sudden or forceful stop rather than a typical gradual slow down or deceleration.

Rapid acceleration
Accelerating rapidly from a stopped position or a significant increase in your speed, greater than typical gradual acceleration.

Hard turning
Taking turns suddenly or without slowing appropriately, which may result in a feeling of leaning to the side.

What do the insights mean?

Your insights reflect when these behaviors occurred during a dash, compared to your own recent driving history over similar distances.

Tips for staying safe

To help promote safer driving and improve driving habits:

Speed
Follow posted speed limits and travel with the flow of traffic.

Hard Braking
Leave more distance between your car and the one in front of you to allow for more time to react and brake gradually when the car in front of you slows down or stops. Decelerate gently when approaching stop signs, traffic lights, exit ramps, and lane merges.

Phone Handling

Mount your phone and turn on voice activation, even if you’re using Apple Carplay or Android Auto.  Use hands free or pull over in a safe spot if you need to text or chat with a customer.

Rapid acceleration
Increase your speed gradually to accelerate smoothly and avoid rapid acceleration from a stopped position or when passing other vehicles..

Hard turning
Slow down and keep a steady speed during turns. If you feel your body tilting during a turn, it’s an indication that you could slow down.
