Information about the recent settlement with the City of New York
DoorDash reached a settlement with New York City's Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) over compliance with the City's pay rules for delivery workers.
We made mistakes that caused some Dashers to be underpaid or paid late. These mistakes are unacceptable, and we’re sorry to every Dasher we let down.
We're paying every impacted Dasher what they earned and fixing what caused it. Here's what Dashers need to know.
What happened?
New York City introduced a delivery pay rule in 2023. Despite our best efforts to fully comply, some Dashers have been underpaid or paid late.
What caused this?
Most errors came from technical issues with complex deliveries, such as orders that crossed city boundaries, had multiple stops, or were partially completed or cancelled. Others happened because Dashers provided incomplete or inaccurate banking information.
Was this intentional?
Absolutely not. These were mistakes, not something DoorDash did on purpose. We’re sorry to the Dashers we let down and we’re taking full responsibility for what happened.
What is DoorDash doing?
We let Dashers down and we want to make things right. We’re paying back every impacted Dasher what they earned and we’ve fixed what caused this to stop it from happening again. We will also be using the City’s method for calculating on-call time pay moving forward.
Am I owed money?
If you were impacted and owed money, you will be contacted directly with details about how to get paid.
What is on-call time?
On-call time is the time you're logged into the Dasher app but not on an active delivery. Part of this settlement resolves a disagreement over how pay for that time should be calculated.
Was this related to tips?
No. This settlement is about compliance with the City's pay rules, not tips. Dashers keep 100% of the tips they receive on DoorDash, and that hasn't changed.
Do I need to file a claim?
No. Impacted Dashers will be contacted directly to arrange for payment. You don't need to submit anything.
How much will I get?
It depends on your individual pay history. The median repayment is about $48. Every impacted Dasher will receive at least $10, even if the amount owed is smaller.
When will I be paid?
We expect most impacted Dashers to be paid in the coming weeks.
