Overview of new NYC regulations for bike and e-bike Dashers
If you deliver using a bike or e-bike in New York City, new regulations require you to use certain safety equipment and complete a NYC Safety Training course.
In order to dash in NYC, at all times you’ll need to wear:
A DoorDash-branded reflective vest displaying your NYC Unique ID number (provided by DoorDash at no cost)
Helmet
You must also always equip your bike with the following:
Bell
Front lights
Rear lights
Spoke reflectors
Functional brakes
Lastly, you will need to complete NYC’s “Do you Deliver?” Safety Training course.

NYC reflective vest
As part of a new NYC law, all Dashers will be required to wear a DoorDash-branded reflective vest when dashing in NYC. The reflective vest also must have your NYC Unique ID number affixed to it (more on this below).
How do I get my DoorDash-branded reflective vest?
Look for an email from DoorDash with the subject line: “New NYC law requires reflective vest”. This email will have a link that will take you to your Dasher app where you can confirm, update, or provide your shipping address.
Alternatively, you can also check your inbox notification in the Dasher app for a message called “Confirm your shipping address”.
Review your shipping address. If you already have an address on your Dasher account, you’ll have the option to confirm it’s a good shipping address or update it. If there is no address on your Dasher account, you’ll be asked to add an address where we can ship your vest.
Wait for your reflective vest to arrive. Once you’ve confirmed or added your address, we'll ship your DoorDash-branded reflective vest to you. It should arrive in 1-2 weeks. You will receive an email from Overture (our vendor) with your tracking number and estimated date of delivery.
Important: If you need to make changes to your shipping information after confirming your shipping address, contact DoorDash Dasher Support.
Why do I need a DoorDash-branded reflective vest?
A new NYC law requires Dashers who deliver by bike or e-bike to wear a DoorDash-branded reflective vest while dashing. The vest also must display your NYC Unique ID number, which you must affix to the back of your vest. Everything you need to affix your NYC Unique ID number to the back of your vest will be included in the same shipment as your vest.
You must wear the reflective vest as the outermost garment on your body, and the reflective vest must be clearly visible. When dashing, your NYC Unique ID number must be displayed on your vest at all times.
Important: If you complete deliveries on other platforms, NYC law requires you to have an individual, company-branded vest from each platform you work with (e.g., DoorDash, UberEats, GrubHub, etc.). Do not wear your DoorDash-branded reflective vest when completing deliveries for any other platform(s). And do not wear a non-DoorDash-branded vest when dashing.
Why do I need to provide my current address?
DoorDash will ship you a branded reflective vest with your NYC Unique ID number for free. If you don't provide or confirm your shipping address, we won’t be able to send your vest.
What if I need to update my shipping address?
If your shipping address changes after you submit the form, contact DoorDash Dasher Support and provide Dasher Support with your updated address (where you can receive packages):
Street address
Apartment/unit number (if applicable)
City
State
ZIP code (5 digits)
Any applicable delivery instructions
What happens if I don’t confirm or provide my shipping address?
If you don’t confirm or provide your shipping address by February 15, 2027, and:
You have an available mailing address in your Dasher account, we will ship the reflective vest to that address.
If you don’t have an available mailing address in your Dasher account, we won’t be able to send you the required DoorDash-branded reflective vest, and you won’t be able to continue dashing in NYC until you provide your current address.
Make sure you complete these steps to get your reflective vest promptly so you can keep bike-dashing in NYC.
When will my vest arrive?
Once your vest is shipped, Overture will send you an order confirmation email with a tracking number. Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing and delivery, though delivery times may vary.

What do I need to do when my reflective vest arrives?
Place the card with your NYC Unique ID number on the white rectangle on the back of your DoorDash-branded reflective vest so it’s visible. Wear the DoorDash-branded reflective vest at all times while dashing and make sure the card with your NYC Unique ID number is affixed to your vest at all times.
How should I wear my DoorDash-branded reflective vest?
Wear your vest as the outermost layer of clothing while you are dashing so the reflective material, DoorDash branding, and NYC Unique ID number are clearly visible in the back of the vest.
I work with multiple platforms. Which vest and ID should I use?
NYC regulation requires you to wear and carry the reflective vest associated with the platform you’re currently using. When dashing, wear your DoorDash-branded vest with your NYC Unique ID number.
If you switch to another platform, use the vest provided by that platform while completing deliveries. Do not wear the DoorDash-branded reflective vest or display your NYC Unique ID number while you complete deliveries for other platforms. Likewise, do not wear a non-DoorDash vest while you’re dashing.

NYC Dashers can also request reimbursement for brakes. We’ll share more details about this in the coming months.

NYC Digital Dasher ID Card
What is the NYC Digital Dasher ID Card and where do I find it?
NYC law requires anyone delivering by bike or e-bike to carry a DoorDash-issued ID while dashing.
Your NYC digital Dasher ID card can be found in the upper right-hand corner of your account page.
The digital ID includes:
Your name
Your photo
Your NYC Unique ID number
DoorDash contact information
What is the NYC Unique ID number?
NYC law requires DoorDash to assign each Dasher using a bike or e-bike an NYC Unique ID number. Note that this is the same number as the unique ID number affixed on the back of your DoorDash-branded reflective vest.
What photo will be displayed?
A selfie you previously submitted during your identity verification will be used as your profile picture.
Can I change the photo on this digital ID card?
Yes, you can change the photo in your account profile page. Each submission will also be reviewed to verify your identity.
Your ID photo must clearly show your face. We may reject photos that are blurry or poorly lit, show more than one person, hide part of your face (for example, with hands, sunglasses, or a mask), or contain inappropriate content.
When am I required to show this digital ID card?
NYC law requires anyone delivering by bike or e-bike to carry a DoorDash-issued ID while dashing. While your ID is not automatically surfaced to customers or merchants, you may be asked to provide it while delivering.
NYC Safety Training
Who needs to complete the NYC safety training course?
NYC law requires anyone delivering by bike or e-bike to complete a safety training course through the NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) before continuing to deliver with a bike or e-bike within city limits.
How do I get started?
On your desktop or mobile device, go to the Safety Training Portal to complete the mandatory training.
Be sure to:
Use the email address associated with your Dasher account. If you use a different email address, we cannot automatically verify your completion.
Verify your email address.
Select “DoorDash” as your delivery platform. This ensures confirmation that you have completed the safety training course and is automatically shared with us.
Provide your Dasher ID. Your Dasher ID (different from your new NYC Unique ID number) can be found in the Dasher app under “Account” > “Profile” > “Dasher ID”
What does the NYC training include?
The course covers:
NYC traffic laws
Safe riding practices
Delivery worker safety requirements
You'll be asked to complete knowledge assessments (short quizzes about the material you just learned) as you progress through the course.
How do I share proof of completion?
After successfully completing the safety training course, you'll receive a certificate of completion from NYC DOT as well as a confirmation sent to the email address you provided.
You’ll be able to access a copy of your certificate of completion in your NYC DOT account through the same training link by logging in with the same email address. Please keep a copy of this certificate for your records.
To share your results with DoorDash through NYC DOT:
Log back into the NYC DOT portal and tap Share Course Completion Status.
Select “DoorDash” from the drop-down menu.
Provide your Dasher ID**
**Your Dasher ID can be found in the Dasher app under “Account” > “Profile” > “Dasher ID”
Note: your reflective vest and digital ID card will show your NYC Unique ID number (not your Dasher ID).
In the Dasher app, you’ll be prompted to provide your Completion ID, so we can validate your completion of the course.
