How is my age verified for alcohol orders?
How is my age verified for alcohol orders?
There is a two-step process for age verification.
To check out: DoorDash offers a one-time process to check your age when ordering alcohol. Provided you are of legal drinking age, after you upload a photo of your ID, you’ll be able to check out and complete your order.
To receive your order: Dashers will do a physical examination of the recipient’s ID and will also scan the front of that ID to run a variety of compliance checks. Provided these checks are successful, you will receive the alcohol order.
What information is shared with the Dasher?
Only necessary information - your first name and last initial - will be shared with the Dasher prior to delivery. When the Dasher arrives at your delivery location, they will be prompted to physically check your ID and also scan the front of your ID before handing off your order. They will not be able to view your address after the order is complete, nor will they have a copy of your ID (see below for more info).
Does the Dasher keep my ID on their phone?
No, the Dasher does not keep your ID on their phone. Your ID is scanned via the DoorDash Dasher app and retained by DoorDash in alignment with the security measures described below. Your ID information will not be available to the Dasher once the scan is complete. The ID scan process takes place entirely within the DoorDash Dasher app.
Where does my data go after it’s been scanned?
We may share this information with third parties located in the United States, for storage and processing. DoorDash security and privacy teams review such third parties for compliance with our security and privacy requirements.
Will I need to complete this process when ordering alcohol again?
Once you go through and pass the age checking procedure before your first alcohol delivery, you won’t be required to do it again to checkout until the ID you used expires(see below)! Your information will be stored securely for future alcohol purchases.
When your ID expires, you will be prompted to upload a new ID. That new ID, which will go through age checking procedures again, will replace the expired ID and will be stored securely on file so you do not need to go through another scan at checkout.
Note: to reiterate the above, each time a Dasher arrives at your delivery location, they will be prompted to physically check your ID and also scan the front of your ID before handing off your order.
What if I want DoorDash to change or remove my ID?
To change your ID, select “Change ID” on your next alcohol purchase and upload a new ID for age verification. If you’d like to remove your ID entirely, please visit the Manage Account center here.
Why does DoorDash scan IDs when it also does visual verification?
DoorDash takes our legal obligations seriously and our goal is to comply with applicable laws and otherwise set leading responsibility and safety standards for this industry. We take these precautions as a safety measure and to document our process for age checking purposes.
What if I’m not available for the order?
Alcohol purchases require in-person delivery. If you or a 21+ recipient are not available, the Dasher will abandon the order and take the items back to the store.
What if someone else receives the order?
If the order is received on your behalf, the Dasher will ask to check the recipient’s age and scan a valid government issued ID to help ensure they are of legal age.
If you believe the order was incorrectly delivered to someone else, please contact DoorDash Support.
What about a gift order?
If you are sending a gift order, the Dasher will be prompted to check the recipient’s age and also run a scan on a valid government issued ID.
How do I know my photo ID is stored securely?
DoorDash takes the security of your personal data seriously. We recognize that the information on your ID may be considered sensitive or biometric information.
We implement security controls to handle the information on your ID with due care, in consideration of what is appropriate for information that may be sensitive in nature.
