Mandatory Dasher Information For Compliant Tax Reporting

Canada implemented Bill C-47, an Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 28, 2023, which includes new tax reporting rules for DoorDash and similar digital platform operators. These rules require DoorDash to collect certain information from Dashers and report such information to the CRA every January for the prior calendar year. For your records, a personalized report with the information that was reported to the CRA will be available as a PDF within the Dasher app (in the Earnings tab) by January 31 each year, beginning in 2025.

Canadian law requires DoorDash to collect and report your full legal name, primary address, date of birth, and tax identification number to the CRA. If you fail to provide any of the required information, the CRA may fine you up to $500 for lack of compliance.

Q: What are the new changes regarding Canadian tax reporting and how does this affect me as a Dasher?

A: Canada implemented Bill C-47, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 28, 2023, which includes new tax reporting rules for certain digital platform operators like DoorDash. These rules require DoorDash to collect certain information from Dashers and report insights to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) every January for the prior calendar year.

Q: What information is DoorDash required to include in its report to the CRA?

A: DoorDash must include the following information in its annual report:

  • First and last name

  • Primary address

  • Tax identification number

  • Date of birth

  • Total earnings paid or credited during each quarter of the prior calendar year

  • Total number of deliveries during each quarter of the prior calendar year

Q: Will I receive a copy of the information reported to the CRA?

A: Yes. DoorDash will incorporate information provided to the CRA into a personalized report available to each Dasher within the Dasher app by January 31 annually, beginning in 2025.

Q: DoorDash is sending me messages saying I have missing or incomplete information on my report. What does this mean?

A: Canadian law requires DoorDash to collect and report each Dasher’s full legal name, primary address, date of birth, and tax identification number to the CRA. If you received this message, our records indicate that you have not yet provided all the information that DoorDash is required to report. If you fail to provide any of the required information, the CRA may fine you up to $500 for lack of compliance.

Q: What should I do to update this information?

A:

  • If your tax identification number is missing or incomplete, you’ll be prompted by an in-app message directing you on how to update this before you can dash.

  • If your physical address is missing or incomplete, please reach out to Dasher Support to update your information.
