What is a Form 1099-K?

Form 1099-K is a type of Form 1099 used to report gross payments processed through payment cards and third-party settlement organizations (TPSOs). It's used to report certain payment transactions to both you and the IRS.

Who receives a Form 1099-K?

Merchants and vendors who receive payments through a third-party settlement organization (TPSO) may receive a Form 1099-K.

DoorDash qualifies as a TPSO. Whether you receive a 1099-K depends on IRS requirements for the applicable tax year, including minimum transaction and gross payment thresholds.

Note: IRS thresholds can change year to year. DoorDash issues forms based on the IRS rules in effect for that tax year.

What is reported on a Form 1099-K?

Your Form 1099-K reports gross sales processed through DoorDash, which may include:

  • Order subtotals

  • Applicable taxes

  • Other reportable earnings

Important: The amount shown on your 1099-K is not the same as your payouts. It doesn't account for commissions, fees, or other amounts owed to DoorDash.

What is a Form 1099-NEC?

Form 1099-NEC reports non-employee compensation. This includes payments made to independent contractors or businesses for services.

You may receive a 1099-NEC from DoorDash if you were paid for items not included on a 1099-K, such as:

  • Exclusivity payments

  • One-time or incentive payments not tied to payment card or TPSO transactions

Will I receive a 1099-K from DoorDash for 2025?

DoorDash issues 1099-K forms based on IRS requirements for the 2025 tax year:

  • $20,000 in earnings, and

  • 200 or more transactions in 2025

If you meet these thresholds, your form will be generated in January 2026 and available in the Merchant Portal, under Financials.
