Overview of new NYC regulations for bike and e-bike Dashers
If you deliver using a bike or e-bike in New York City, new regulations require you to have and to use certain safety equipment and complete NYC Safety Training course.
In order to dash in NYC, at all times you’ll need to wear:
A DoorDash-branded reflective vest displaying your NYC Unique ID (provided by DoorDash at no cost)
Helmet
You must also always equip your bike with the following:
Bell
Front lamp
Rear lights
Reflective tires
Functional Brakes
Lastly, you will need to complete the NYC “Do you Deliver?” Safety Training course.
NYC reflective vest requirement
As part of a new NYC regulation, all Dashers will be required to wear a DoorDash-branded reflective vest over their outermost clothing at all times while dashing in NYC. The reflective vest includes an NYC Unique Identification Number. NYC Law requires that you wear this DoorDash-branded reflective vest at all times while dashing.
How do I get my DoorDash-branded reflective vest?
We'll send you an email with everything you need. Here's what to do:
Look for an email from DoorDash with the subject line: “Confirm your NYC address”. This email will have a link to your reflective vest request form.
Fill out the form with your current shipping address. Be careful: you can't edit your address after you submit, so double-check everything before clicking submit.
Get your reflective vest once you submit your address, we'll ship your DoorDash-branded reflective vest to you right away with your NYC Unique ID number. You will also receive a tracking email from our vendor (Overture).

Important: Review your information carefully before submitting. Once submitted, you won’t be able to edit the form. If you need to make changes to your shipping information after you have submitted your form, contact DoorDash Dasher support.
Why do I need a DoorDash-branded reflective vest?
New NYC regulations require Dashers who deliver by bike or e-bike to wear a DoorDash-branded reflective vest while dashing. You must wear the reflective vest as the outermost garment on your body and the reflective vest must be clearly visible. Your NYC Unique ID number must be displayed on the back of your reflective vest at all times while you are dashing.
Important: If you complete deliveries facilitated by other platforms, NYC law requires you to have an individual company-branded vest from each platform you work with (e.g., UberEats). Do not wear the DoorDash-branded reflective vest when completing deliveries facilitated by any other platform(s).
Why do I need to provide my current address?
DoorDash will ship you a DoorDash-branded reflective vest for free by mail along with your NYC Unique ID number. If you don't provide or confirm your current address we are not able to send you the reflective vest or the NYC Unique ID number.
I need to update my shipping address?
If your shipping address changes after you submit the form, contact DoorDash Dasher Support and be prepared to provide Support with your current:
Street address (where you can receive packages)
Apt number or delivery instructions, if applicable
City
State
ZIP code
What happens if I don’t confirm or provide my current address?
If you don’t provide your current address by September 15, we will not be able to send you the required DoorDash-branded reflective vest, and you will not be able to continue dashing in NYC unless and until you confirm or provide your current address. To avoid any interruption in your ability to dash in NYC, make sure you complete the steps to get your reflective vest promptly so you can continue earning.
When will my vest arrive?
Once your DoorDash-branded reflective vest with your NYC Unique ID is shipped, we’ll send you a tracking email.
Please allow one to two weeks for processing and delivery. Shipping and delivery times may vary.
If your DoorDash-branded reflective vest hasn’t arrived within two weeks from the date you receive the tracking email, or if you have any other questions about your vest order, contact fulfillment@overturepromo.com
What do I need to do when my reflective vest arrives?
Place the NYC Unique ID number you received in the mail on the white rectangle on the back of your DoorDash-branded reflective vest so it’s visible. Wear the DoorDash-branded reflective vest at all times while dashing for DoorDas.
How should I wear my DoorDash-branded reflective vest?
Wear your DoorDash-branded reflective vest as the outermost layer of clothing while you are dashing so the reflective material, DoorDash branding, and NYC Unique ID number remain visible. Do not wear your DoorDash-branded reflective vest when completing deliveries facilitated by any other platform. Likewise, do not wear a reflective vest with any other company’s branding when dashing (if you work with other platforms besides DoorDash).
I work with multiple platforms. Which vest and ID should I use?
NYC regulations require you to wear and carry the reflective vest associated with the platform you’re currently using.
When dashing, wear your DoorDash-branded reflective vest with your NYC Unique ID number.
If you switch to another platform, use the vest provided by that platform while completing delivery. Do not wear the DoorDash-branded reflective vest or display your NYC Unique ID number while you complete deliveries facilitated by other platforms. Likewise, do not wear a non-DoorDash vest while you are dashing for DoorDash.
NYC SAFETY TRAINING
Who needs to complete the NYC safety training course?
NYC regulations require anyone delivering by bike or e-bike to complete a safety training course through the NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) before continuing to deliver with a bike or e-bike.
How do I get started?
You can access this link through the Safety Training Portal to complete the mandatory training either via desktop or mobile device.
Be sure to:
Use the same email address associated with your Dasher account. If you use a different email, we cannot automatically verify your completion.
Verify your email address
Select “DoorDash” as your delivery platform. This ensures your results are shared with us.
Provide your Dasher ID. Your Dasher ID can be found in the Dasher app under “Account” > “Profile” > “Dasher ID”
Using the same email address as your Dasher Account helps ensure your training completion can be verified correctly.
What does the NYC training include?
The course covers:
NYC traffic laws
Safe riding practices
Delivery worker safety requirements
You'll be asked to complete a knowledge assessment as you progress in the course.
How do I share proof of completion?
After successfully completing the training, you'll receive a confirmation and certificate from the NYC DOT sent to the email address you provided. Please keep this certificate for your records.
You’ll be able to access a copy of your certificate in your NYC DOT account through the same training link by logging in with the same email address.
To share your results with DoorDash:
Log back into the NYC DOT portal and tap Share Your Certificate.
Select DoorDash from the drop-down menu.
Provide your Dasher ID**
**Your Dasher ID can be found in the Dasher app under “Account” > “Profile” > “Dasher ID”
Note: your reflective vest and digital ID card will show your Unique NYC ID
Other NYC Bike/E-bike Equipment
In the coming months, NYC Dashers can order these items at no cost from the Dasher Store:
Helmet
Bell
Front lamp
Rear lights
Reflective tires
NYC Dashers can also request reimbursement for brakes. We’ll share more details in the coming months.
NYC Dasher ID Cards will also be available through the Dasher app in the coming months.
IMPORTANT
These requirements apply only to Dashers who deliver by bike or e-bike in New York City.
Equipment, training requirements, and eligibility may vary based on your delivery method and location.
