Overview

As part of our commitment to help protect the DoorDash community, we are constantly evaluating new ways to help promote safety on the platform. All prospective Dashers are required to pass a secure background check before they are permitted to access the DoorDash platform. Background checks are performed by National Crime Check (NCC), which is registered with the Ministry of Justice.

Q: How do I complete my background check?

A: To be activated as a Dasher for DoorDash New Zealand, it is mandatory to have completed and cleared a recent Police Check AND Right to Work check conducted by National Crime Check (NCC).

Complete your background check with NCC via the Dasher app

  • Please Note: You must use the same email address and phone number combination as you used to sign up with DoorDash to complete your background check.

Once you have successfully completed the background check process and received a confirmation screen, you will receive an email confirming that you have successfully lodged a background check.

Right To Work check results with a visa class of ‘Student Visa’ OR ‘Pathway Student Visa’ is not permitted. Dasher applicants with this Visa class will not be activated as a Dasher and therefore will not be able to deliver with DoorDash

Q: How much does it cost to complete a background check?

A: Nothing! Completing your background check is completely free of charge.

Q: What do I need to complete my background check?

A: To complete your background check you will need to provide the following personal details:

  • Full name

  • Date of birth

  • Phone number/email address (please make sure these are the same that you used for your DoorDash Sign-up Process)

  • Residential address(es) - Last 5 years

  • Selfie with driver’s license/passport

  • Proof of identity

Q: Can I use a background check that I already have from another company?

A: You will not be able to use a background check from another organisation. Please complete your DoorDash background check via the Dasher app.

Q: What do I do if I’ve used a different phone number/email address for my background check and DoorDash Sign-up Process?

A: Please contact our Dasher Support for assistance.

Q: How long does it take to process my background check?

A: Background checks usually take 5+ business days to be processed by NCC but, in some instances, can take longer. Unfortunately, DoorDash is unable to help speed up this process for you.

Q: How will I receive my background check results?

A: You will receive your background check report directly from NCC via email.

Q: How do I find out the status of my background check?

A: Once your background check has been processed, you will receive the results via email from NCC.

You can also find out the status of your background check on your Dasher app.

Your background check is being processed. This usually takes 24-48 hours. You will receive an email when you are activated and ready to dash, or if you need to take additional action to complete your Sign-up Process.

Needs Action

Your background check may need more information or require additional action with NCC. Look for an email from them with the instructions on how to proceed. You can also contact NCC directly here.

Complete

Your background check is clear and you are now ready to move on to the next steps in the sign up process.

Q: What do I do when I receive the results of my background check?

A: Once your background check has been processed, you will receive the completed report via email from NCC. You do not need to provide the background check to DoorDash as we receive the information when you do. DoorDash will review your completed Background Check report and you will receive information regarding next steps via email!

Q: Do I need to send my completed background check report to DoorDash?

A: Nope! You do not need to provide the background check to DoorDash as we receive the information when you do.

Q: Why haven’t I received the results of my background check yet?

A: There are several reasons why you may not have received the results of your background check yet, including:

  • Your background check is still being processed by NCC - Find out more information here.

  • More information is required to complete your background check - Find out more information here.

Q: Once I’ve received the results of my background check, how long until my Dasher account gets activated and I can start Dashing?

A: If your background check results show you have (0) zero Disclosable Court Outcomes and Right to Work check is cleared and verified, you will receive prompts to complete your safety module.

Your account is generally activated within 48hrs of your results verified and your safety module is completed.

If your background check results show you have one or more Disclosable Court Outcomes, your information will be reviewed and you will receive information regarding next steps via email!

  • Please note: Right To Work check results with a visa class of ‘Student Visa’ OR ‘Pathway Student Visa’ is not permitted. Dasher applicants with this Visa class will not be activated as a Dasher and therefore will not be able to deliver with DoorDash.

If activated, you will receive a confirmation text message stating: ‘Congrats! Your Dasher Account Is Activated’ OR ‘Welcome to Doordash!’. This means you’re ready to start Dashing! "

Q: I’ve received my background check but I still haven’t been activated - why?

A: There are several reasons why you may have received the results of your background check but not yet been activated to Dash:

  • You have not yet completed the safety modules and watched the Dasher onboarding video - please complete in the app or look out for an email with instructions.

  • You have used a different phone number/email address for your background check and DoorDash Sign-up Process - Please contact our Dasher Support for assistance.

  • Your background check has expired - if you have received your background check results more than 3 months ago, you will need to complete a new one.

  • Your background check is under internal review - Please check your emails for more information.

  • You have not cleared your background check - Please check your emails for more information.

Q: I’ve received an Adverse Action Notice - what does this mean?

A: Unfortunately, upon review, your Background Check report does not meet eligibility requirements to Dash, and we cannot activate your account.

Q: I think the information contained in my background check is wrong - what can I do?

A: If you believe the information contained within your background check report is incorrect and want to dispute this, please visit the NCC website here.
