Smirk Health Pilot
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Smirk Health pilot?
A: DoorDash is piloting an offer of Smirk Health's portable healthcare benefit plan (underwritten by Chubb) to Dashers in select markets, to test whether it lifts sentiment, engagement, and Dashers' sense of appreciation. It is a marketing/partnership incentive, not a DoorDash-provided insurance benefit.
Q: Is DoorDash giving me health insurance?
A: No. Smirk Health (coverage underwritten by Chubb) provides the plan. Through this partnership, DoorDash is only letting Dashers know that Smirk is offering sign-up bonus and cashback incentive to encourage Dashers to consider it — similar to other partner discounts (e.g., gas or retail offers). This does not change a Dasher's independent contractor status.
Q: Which markets are part of the pilot?
A: The Smirk Health offer is currently available to eligible Dashers in Killeen, Phoenix, and Memphis.
Q: How do I sign up for the Smirk Health offer?
A: You can sign up through the Smirk Health enrollment page link found in the email you received from DoorDash or in your DoorDash in-app message.
Q: What do I get for signing up?
A: Under the selected option (“Healthy Living Rewards”), all eligible Dashers get special Dasher perks in the form of Walmart gift cards or codes: a $30 sign-up bonus after scheduling their first Smirk appointment, plus a $5 card each month. Platinum Dashers get a $30 sign-up bonus plus a $15 card each month(~$165/year).
Q: How much does the Smirk Health plan itself cost?
A: Smirk’s lowest-priced plan starts at $19.80/month
Q: Is DoorDash paying for my Smirk plan?
A: No. DoorDash does not directly pay any part of a Dasher's subscription. Smirk is expected to fund the discount. Smirk’s benefits should never be described to Dashers as “DoorDash paying for your insurance.”
Q: How do I qualify as “active” or “Platinum” for the monthly cashback?
A: Qualification is reassessed monthly based on the prior month: completing at least 1 delivery last month keeps a Dasher on the base benefit for the next month; holding Platinum tier status for at least one day last month unlocks the higher Platinum benefit for the next month.
Q: What happens if I drop out of Platinum or go inactive?
A: Because qualification resets monthly, a Dasher who doesn't meet the delivery or Platinum threshold in a given month won't unlock the higher benefit the following month.
Q: What happens to my benefit after the pilot ends?
A: Plan coverage will continue for Dashers for 12 months from the signup month as long as Dashers keep their plan active, regardless of whether we keep or drop the program. Perks will continue for as long as the Dasher fulfills the required eligibility requirements, namely dashing in the last 30 days and reaching Platinum.
Q: Can I cancel or opt out of the Smirk plan once I've signed up?
A: Yes, you can generally cancel your Smirk plan at any time, subject to Smirk’s Terms & Conditions. For questions about your plan and benefits, please contact Smirk directly. DoorDash does not manage or administer the plan; we only provide eligible Dashers access to a special Smirk discount.
Q: How do I actually use the benefit / pay for care?
A: Smirk's AI agent (“Ailene”) helps Dashers find care, book appointments, and fund a benefits wallet at the point of care, but any specific questions are best addressed to Smirk.
Q: If I have a problem with my plan, a claim, or the Smirk app, who do I contact — DoorDash or Smirk?
A: Contact DoorDash Support if you have an issue with your eligibility for Dasher Perks based on your Dasher activity or account status.
For questions or issues with your plan, claims, or the Smirk app, please contact Smirk directly.
Q: Does enrolling affect my independent contractor status?
A: No. The proposal states Smirk acts purely as an engagement layer, with no reclassification risk and no change to Dasher independence. Support content should avoid any language implying an employment status change.
Q: Is my personal information shared with Smirk?
A: DoorDash only shares your Dasher activity status and tier with Smirk to support your eligibility for the offer.
Q: I'm not in a pilot market — can I still sign up?
A: No. Enrollment is limited to Dashers in the pilot markets during the pilot window. Any future expansion depends on the pilot hitting its sign-up, retention, and hours-uplift thresholds — avoid promising expansion to a specific market or date.
