Package Requirements 

Packages must abide by the following rules to be eligible for the Package Pickup service. 

  1. Seal packages with shipping labels

  2. Send QR codes for packages that require it

  3. Under 30 lbs each

  4. Worth less than $500

  5. No postage stamps

  6. Do not contain anything, fragile, liquid, perishable, or potentially hazardous, including lithium batteries and perfume

  7. In good condition and not including previously used labels, markings or stickers.

  8. Comply with carrier and DoorDash requirements and item restrictions

How it works: Package Pickup

Where: In the U.S. at UPS, FedEx, USPS

Summary:

DoorDash is offering Package Pickup, a new service that allows you to request a Dasher to pick up your packages, whether with a QR code or packaged with a shipping label, and drop them off to either a FedEx, UPS, or USPS for a flat fee. DoorDash does not provide packaging materials.

  • Easy Requesting: Simply select your preferred drop-off store (FedEx, UPS, or USPS), choose how many & what type packages to return (up to 5), and check out!

  • Hassle-Free Pickup: When placing your order, let us know if you’d like to hand it directly to the dasher or would like a contactless pickup.  Please remember to have your package ready: fully sealed, pre-paid, and labeled or with a QR code. 

  • Real time Updates: Expect the same standard of notifications and Dasher care throughout your package pickup experience! You will receive in-app confirmation once the package has been delivered.

How Does it Work?

  • Navigate to the Packages icon on the homepage or use search to select your carrier of choice: USPS, UPS or FedEx. Note, if you have multiple packages going to multiple carriers, then please start a separate order.

  • Do you have a pre-printed label or a QR code? Select each type of package you’d like us to pick up and add them to your cart.

  • If you have a QR code, please be sure to follow the instructions within the app to share it with your Dasher.

  • Once you’re ready, checkout and review the Package Requirements to make sure your package(s) are eligible for the service. Each package should be properly sealed and labeled for shipping, weigh less than 30 lbs, valued less than $500, and contain no restricted or illegal materials.

  • You may add special instructions for pickup (i.e. ring the doorbell once you arrive), and specify whether you’d like to hand the package directly to the Dasher. Otherwise, tap ‘Accept and Continue’ as confirmation that you agree to the Package Requirements.

  • After you place your request, you can view the status of your Dasher to track when they’ll arrive to pick up your package.

Package Reimbursement

In the event of an incident where your Package Pickup was not successfully delivered to a UPS, FedEx or a UPS, you may request a reimbursement up to the $500 per order reimbursement limit. 

DoorDash reserves the right to request the receipt of purchase and return request in order to verify the package value. DoorDash will conduct an investigation and determine if a reimbursement is warranted.  DoorDash has no obligation to provide reimbursement in any circumstance but may grant it gratuitously at DoorDash’s sole discretion in each case.

Cancellation Policy

If you decide to cancel your Package Pickup request, you will be fully refunded the amount of your Package Pickup fee. However, if a Dasher has already picked up your package, you will need to contact Customer Support in order to coordinate package retrieval. FAQs

  • Can I send items going to two different drop-off locations in the same request?

a. No. Each delivery request must be limited to a single drop-off point (a UPS, USPS, FedEx location). However, you may send up to 5 packages to the same drop-off location. If you decide to place more than one request to multiple drop-off locations, we recommend you physically write the drop-off location on each package. 

  • Can DoorDash print a label for me?

a. No, DoorDash will not print the label for your package return. Labels must be pre-printed and pre-attached to the package you intend to return for it to be eligible for this service. 

  • How will I know that my package has been dropped off? Can I receive a tracking number?

a. The Dasher will send a photo confirmation of your package at the drop-off location, and the app will notify you once the package has been dropped off. DoorDash will not provide tracking numbers.

  • Will this service process my refund for me?

a. No. This service only completes the first stage of your return; picking up your package and dropping it off to FedEx, USPS, or UPS. To get information on your refund, please contact the online retailer you purchased from.

  • Is this service eligible for DashPass?

a. Yes, this service is available at a reduced price for DashPass subscribers.

  • What happens if my package(s) are never delivered?

a. If you suspect your package has not been dropped off, please contact DoorDash Customer Support at +1(855) 973-1040 or through the Help Support Button in-app. Our team will investigate the incident and you may be subject to reimbursement for the value of your packages, up to $500 per order. Please see the Package Reimbursement section for more details.

  • How soon after requesting a package return can I expect the Dasher to arrive at my door?

a. Requests for package return pickup are on an ASAP basis, but may take as long as 1-2 hours. You can track the Dasher’s status in-app. Please be ready as soon as you place the request to ensure a smooth process.

  • What will happen to my package if the store is closed?

a. You will only be able to place a request if your drop-off location is open and operating. 

  • Do I need to be present for the Dasher to pick my package(s) up, or can it be a contactless pickup?

a. You can request contactless pickup by selecting “Pickup outside my door” while checking out. Please note that if the Dasher is unable to find the package, they will contact you to find it.

  • I live in an apartment. Can I still use this service?

a. Yes, you can still use this service. Just be sure to include your apartment number and clear instructions on how to find the apartment if you believe it may be difficult for a Dasher to locate. 

  • What if the Dasher can’t find me or the package?

a. The Dasher will contact you if they cannot find you or the package, so be prepared to answer a call or message from the Dasher in the event they need to reach you. If the issue persists, the Dasher may contact Support for further assistance in finding you.

  • Can I cancel my request? (and how?)

a. Yes, you may cancel your request after placing it (but before the Dasher has picked up your package). However, if you want to cancel your pickup after the Dasher has picked it up, you will need to contact Customer Support at +1(855) 973-1040.
