How to Get a Tax Invoice for Your DoorDash Order (Australia & New Zealand)
How to Get a Tax Invoice for Your DoorDash Order (Australia & New Zealand)
Overview
DoorDash operates under two different tax models in Australia and New Zealand. The type of invoice you receive depends on the merchant.
Standard Merchants (Tax Facilitator Model) - For most DoorDash merchants (e.g., restaurants, cafes), DoorDash acts as a marketplace facilitator. In this case:
The DoorDash Tax Invoice covers DoorDash fees only — Delivery Fee, Service Fee, and any applicable additional charges (e.g., Long Distance Fee).
The merchant sells the items themselves. For a tax invoice covering the goods, customers must contact the merchant directly.
Retailer Merchants (Tax Retailer Model) - For select retail merchants — including Costco, Supabarn, Aldi, The Warehouse, and DashMart — DoorDash acts as the reseller of the goods under Australian and New Zealand GST law. In this case:
The DoorDash Tax Invoice covers both the order subtotal (items) and DoorDash fees.
You do not need to contact the merchant separately for a tax invoice on the goods.
This is a legal requirement: DoorDash must provide customers with a compliant tax invoice for retail purchases upon request.
