Help Customers Discover Your Items and Store on DoorDash

Manage food labels and store labels so customers can better understand your menu before they order.

Customers often search for items and stores that fit specific dietary needs, allergies, cuisines, or store types. Accurate labels help customers find options they can feel confident ordering.

Taking a few minutes to review your labels can also help your business. Confirmed labels may improve discovery across DoorDash surfaces, reduce avoidable customer questions, and help meet nutrition or allergen compliance laws in your markets.

Food Labels

Food labels apply to individual menu items. They include dietary labels, such as Vegan, Vegetarian, and Gluten-free, and allergen labels, such as Contains peanuts or Contains shellfish.

Allergen labels now support the top 9 U.S. allergens: wheat, milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, soybeans, tree nuts, peanuts, and sesame. This gives merchants a clear and direct way to disclose allergen information on DoorDash and meet any legal or business requirements for allergen disclosure.

How to view and update a food label

1. Open Menu Manager.

2. Select the menu item you want to review.

3. Scroll to Food labels in the side-sheet

4. Add or remove any dietary or allergen labels that apply.

5. Save your changes.

Only confirm labels that accurately describe the item. If ingredients or preparation methods change, review the labels again.

How to update food labels in bulk

You can review and update food labels across multiple items from Menu Manager in a single view to quickly action your menu items:

  1. Open Menu Manager in Merchant Portal.

  2. Select Show Food Labels from Menu Settings.

  3. Review the current and suggested food labels for each item.

    • Select the checkmark to confirm a suggested label

    • Select X to remove or decline a label

What happens after updating food labels?

DoorDash honors the labels you confirm. Updates are designed to flow through DoorDash systems so customer-facing surfaces can reflect your latest item information.

  • Allergen labels may appear on item pages as a "Contains..." line, such as "Contains soybeans, wheat."

  • Dietary labels may appear in search, badges, carousels, and other discovery surfaces.

Store Labels

Store labels apply to your store as a whole. They include cuisine labels, store-type labels, and dietary store labels.

Cuisine and store-type labels help customers understand what kind of business you run. Dietary store labels help customers understand whether your store offers dietary-friendly options or follows a dedicated dietary practice.

What store labels can I update?

  • Cuisine labels: Describe the type of food your store serves.

  • Store-type labels: Describe your store format or specialty.

  • Dietary labels: Describe dietary options or dedicated dietary practices at a store-level; these labels are divided into:

    • Friendly Labels: your store carries a meaningful selection of those items but may not adhere to this practice in all items and cannot ensure no cross-contamination e.g. “Vegetarian Options”

    • Dedicated Labels: your store ensures that all available items adhere to the dietary practice and there is no risk of cross-contamination e.g. “Gluten-free Kitchen”

How to view and update store labels

  1. Open Merchant Portal.

  2.  Navigate to Store Settings.

  3. Scroll to Store labels

  4. Add or remove cuisine, store-type, or dietary labels that apply

  5. Save your changes.

How to add more dietary details

  • Allergen URL: If your store has an allergen menu, nutrition guide, or ingredient page, add the link in Store labels so customers can review your information before ordering.

  • Dietary Note: If you add a dedicated dietary label, add a clear dietary note. Use it to explain preparation practices, shared equipment, possible cross-contact, or other details customers should know.

How does DoorDash determine menu item labels?

DoorDash uses a combination of machine learning and human review to suggest labels based on:

  • Item names

  • Item descriptions

  • Menu photos

These suggestions help identify common dietary, allergen, and taste attributes, which you can then review in the Merchant Portal.

Why do some labels require review?

Some labels — such as gluten-free or vegan — are considered highly sensitive. Because customers rely on these labels to make safe choices, you must review and confirm suggested labels before they're used for discovery.

DoorDash may suggest a label, but it won't be applied until you approve it in the Merchant Portal or another approved channel.

What if I use a POS integration?

  • Enterprise Merchants: Contact your account owner or Merchant Support for guidance.

  • Non-Enterprise Merchants using POS integrations: You can still use Food labels.
